Six Mindsets to Eliminate From Your Life, Part 3
Rid Yourself of Self-Centered Thinking
The Bible tells us in many places that we are not to think about our own needs, but we are to be concerned about the needs of others. According to Philippians chapter 2, we should, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross” (verses 5–8).
Your mind will have you thinking about what you’re going to eat today, where you’re going to go, how you’re going to entertain yourself, what you’re going to do to take care of yourself. It’s all going to be inward focused, unless you wean yourself of that.
What does a child do? A child doesn’t think about anybody but “me.” God wants us to mature to the place where we think of others first. That means we need to get rid of self-centered thinking.
Part four—and the fourth mindset to wean yourself from—will be posted next Thursday.
