Six Areas to Set Goals in 2014: Identify Personal Goals

Yesterday, I started talking about the fact that resolutions are a God-given idea. God wants us to set goals and objectives to help us make progress in our lives. Today I want to talk about the first area in our lives we need to address when we make our goals for 2014.

1.    Personal Goals

The first goals you set for 2014 shouldn’t have to do with your business or even your family. The highest priority for you is your personal relationship with the Lord. Without spending time with Him, you will not go anywhere in the kingdom of God.

  • What are your objectives for the coming year for your life with God?
  • What did your personal devotional time look like last year and how do you want to improve it this year?
  • How much time will you set aside to read your Bible? pray in English? pray in the Holy Ghost? wait on the Lord? worship Him?

Becoming a Christian doesn’t mean you check your brain at the door and let life happen to you. You need to make sure you’re developing your intellect and giving God something to work with. The more you give Him to work with, the more He can do through you.

  • How can you develop your intellect this year?
  • Can you take a class to increase your business knowledge or take a course on biblical history?
  • How many books can you read to expand your intellectual capacity? (By the way, there are bad books just like there are bad TV programs, so be discriminating in what you read.)

When you can speak well and write well and when you understand the world in which you are called to be a light, it enhances your credibility in the eyes of the world. It makes it possible for them to hear what you have to say.

God wants us pressing in every area, including our physical health.

  • What kind of temple have you given the Holy Ghost to inhabit?
  • Can you eat healthier?
  • Can you develop or expand your exercise plan?

Even if you have set physical goals in the past and haven’t made them, that’s okay. The point is that you are pressing forward. As long as you are moving toward something, you have hope of arriving at some place better than you are at the moment.

Next week, I want to talk to you further about goal setting as we get ready to welcome 2014.

These are awesome points to share, I need to focus on all area’s. So I am actually going to put together a plan, to be stronger and more focused this year. I will put the Lord first and pray about the plan and go over it with the Lord once I have put it in writing. I trust he will help me each day as long as I stay committed to him such as praying for strength so I do not grow weary. I will pray I keep the goal in place and not let the enemy steal it. I will pray that I remain positive and see the glass full and not empty. My main prayer will be daily, Philippians 4::13 I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me. Also big scripture Romans 8:35-37 I am accounted as sheep for the slaughter! Yet in ALL things I am more than a conqueror in Christ. No one is steeling my cheese or moving it. Glory to Glory!!
