Six Areas to Set Goals in 2014: What Goal Works for You?

As you go through your personal goals for 2014 as well as the other areas I mentioned, remember there’s not a right answer to these questions. I don’t know what will work for you, but the Holy Spirit does. Look at 1 Corinthians chapter 2.

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. … Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. (vv. 9–10, 12–13 KJV)

God has a mind-boggling, eye-popping plan for you. You can’t imagine it—but you can pray about it and receive revelation from the Holy Spirit about what that plan is. He will not only reveal the plan of God, but also the intermediate goals that He wants you to set to help you reach the goal for your life.

The Importance of Praying in Tongues

Praying in tongues is the best way to access this ministry of the Holy Spirit. When you pray in tongues, you pray words “which the Holy Ghost teacheth” (v. 13). You acknowledge the ministry of the Holy Spirit and allow Him to respond by bringing you understanding about the will of God for your life. In other words, you’ll get ideas or see things in a new way; you’ll see a picture of God’s will develop on the inside of you.

Take those ideas He gives you and write them down. Pursue the vision He creates in your heart. As you follow the goals He gives you, it will create a unique momentum toward the Lord.

I encourage you to set your New Year’s resolutions this way: pray in tongues and let the Spirit develop goals in your heart for this next year. Evaluate the different areas I talked about and then write down your God-given goals so you can effectively follow God’s plan for your life.

May God bless you in 2014. Happy New Year!
